Baby Shower

I realized I never wrote about my shower and I guess now is as good a time as any.

My mom offered almost as soon as I got pregnant to throw me a shower and she was so excited about it. She did a wonderful job with the shower and it was a wonderful day. Sydney and I were definitely showered with love and I think I opened gifts for nearly 2 hours.

My parents got me some really special gifts – aside from all of her nursery furniture. My mom kept “baby boxes” for both my brother and I when we were growing up and she saved all kinds of special things for us in them. She kept baby books for us, but it’s also nice to have my box full of memories too. For my shower my mom gave me (and Sydney) the cutest box that she wrote an great little note in for me to use as Sydney’s baby box. I can’t wait to fill it up with all her special memories and one day share them with her.

My dad is pretty handy with a sewing machine and he made Sydney her baby blanket. It is the cutest thing ever and I just know it will be so special to her.

We had family come in from out of town and it was really great to see them as well as our other friends and family that were able to spend the day celebrating Sydney’s life.

The Andersen girls. Mom, Judi, Me, Tracey. And soon to be Miss Sydney.

The Byars side. Sue, Me, and Mary. My Dad’s sisters.

These are basically my sisters – Katie and Laura. We’ve been friends since we were babies and they both were there to stand beside me on my wedding day. I couldn’t imagine my life without them and I’m so glad Sydney will know them as her “Aunts”

Pregnancy update: Week 40

How Far Along: 40 weeks. I’ve made it the whole way and I’m feeling like this little girl is going to make them force her out.

Size of baby: Size of a watermelon – between 19 and 22 inches and between 6 and 9 pounds. And I certainly hope she’s closer to the 6 pound mark instead of that 9 pound mark haha.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: At the doctor last week I weighed in at 155 which is a 40 pound weight gain (I lost 2 pounds so I’m going with this as my final weight)

Maternity Clothes: Right now it’s more like sweats and t-shirts because I’m home waiting for baby to come, but when I do go out I am in maternity clothes – well, pants anyway because it’s too cold to wear my short sleeved maternity shirts and I don’t have any long sleeved ones.

Gender: BABY GIRL!!

Movement: She is definitely in there having a party! I will miss this the most; actually it’s the only thing I’ll miss about being pregnant.

Sleep: I am trying to get as much as I can but it’s uncomfortable so it isn’t always the best but I am getting what I can get.

What I miss: I miss seeing my feet. I miss being able to get up off the couch or out of bed without assistance. I miss not feeling like I might pee myself all the time. I miss not having heartburn. I miss being comfortable. I miss not being pregnant.

Cravings: Right now I’m too busy stuffing my face with spicy food and pineapple and anything else that “they” say can bring on labor.

Aversions: Nothing

Symptoms: I can’t see my feet but I know they’re swollen. I’m extremely uncomfortable. I have this carpal tunnel in my right hand that makes the tips of 3 of my fingers kind of numb, but not all the way numb. I get a little restless leg syndrome which is not fun. I still get heartburn, but that’s probably on account of all that spicy food I’ve been eating.

Labor Signs: Not a one. Walking, stairs, bouncing on an exercise ball, spicy food, pineapple…none of those old wives tales have worked for me.

Belly Button in or out: It’s out and it has been. It also looks kind of funny according to Steve.

Wedding rings on or off: Off and I miss wearing them.

Best moment this week: Well, over the weekend we did so much walking around the mall that I did a little shopping for me so that was nice.

Looking forward to: Meeting my daughter. She’s had plenty of time inside and now it’s time for her to be an outside baby.

We’re the good kind of hoarders

The kind that really only keeps sentimental things. Even though to a(n actual) hoarder everything is sentimental. I don’t really like the clutter so I really only keep things that mean something to me AND that I have space for. If I want to keep something that I don’t quite have the room for I start to purge. Like this baby. I want to keep her a lot so I’ve been purging the crap out of our house. But also, I’ve been digging through some things at my parents house. Because my mom? She’s the most awesome kind of hoarder. The one that keeps things in secret.

I never actually imagined that my girl would wear clothing I wore as a baby because I was a baby about 30 years ago (I said about. I’m not admitting anything here). We were at my parents house one day and I can’t remember why but we were in the basement. I think they were getting ready for a huge yard sale and she was wanting me to go through some things and take what I wanted because she was selling the rest. After all that I asked if she had my baby box and she, of course, did. While we were digging that out I noticed another box… labeled “Carrie’s baby clothes.”

I got overly excited about that. And we lugged both boxes upstairs. Well, she did the lugging because even though they weren’t heavy she wouldn’t let me carry them. I tried but when Mom yells you listen.

It was so much fun to go through these boxes. Some of the outfits I remembered from pictures I’d seen and since I’m a November baby and she’s going to be a November baby they are most likely seasonally correct so she’ll be able to wear a lot of them.

We pulled out clothing from these boxes piece by piece and “oooh’d” and “ahhh’d” over them for a good long while. Steve was super excited about this part because he really, really loves it when I have to show off things to him and I make him look at each and every thing I’m showing him.

Occasionally, if a memory would strike her, my Mom would talk about a particular outfit. Like a couple that she crochet for me… one hat that apparently never fit my head as a baby. And probably won’t fit her head…until she’s my current age. Because that’s when this hat fits me. I don’t know how big she thought I was going to be, but apparently she was thinking huge.

Some of the clothes were a little more stained than my Mom remembers them being, but a lot of them were in really good condition and she had a pretty good wardrobe going just from those boxes alone.

She even had stuff that I actually remembered wearing which gives you an idea of how long she made a habit of keeping my clothes for.

It’s really exciting to think that one Christmas my girl will wear the same little dress that I wore for Christmas. And probably be just as cute as I was!

This was a really special day for me. It was really nice to connect with my Mom on a different level – as a soon to be Mom myself I find that I appreciate her and connect with her in a way I never knew was possible. I think next we’ll go through my old baby pictures to see if we can find any pictures of me in some of these outfits so there can be a neat little comparison of me and Sydney.

Wordless Wednesday

I saw this on Facebook and I liked it. And right now it gives you a good idea of what my insides look like right now. No wonder I’m so uncomfortable, baby girl is taking up all kinds of room in my tiny torso.

I love this special time that I have with my inside baby, but I’m definitely ready to have an outside baby. So, whenever you’re ready sweet girl we are all ready to meet you!

Pregnancy Update: Week 39

How Far Along: 39 weeks. ONE WEEK TO GO! Unless she’s stubborn and wants to be late, but my doctor promised me she wouldn’t make me go past 41 weeks!

Size of baby: She’s still the size of a watermelon….just a tad on the heavier side this week, maybe. Measuring about 19-22 inches and weighing in between 7 – 7.5 pounds. Neither Steve nor I were that big when we were born so we’ll see if she is.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: When I was at the doctor last week I hadn’t gained any more weight!! YAY!! But I hadn’t lost any either so I’m still up 42 pounds total.

Maternity Clothes: Well, since I’m working from home until she’s born it’s more like pajamas. But yeah when I go out I’m wearing maternity stuff just so I don’t stretch out my regular clothes.

Gender: BABY GIRL!!

Movement: She’s still an active baby and the other night I thought she was going to go Alien on my stomach, but after feeling her position the next morning I think she just was working her way down. Not out, just down.

Sleep: It’s not good. Not good at all. What I miss: Seeing my feet. Sleeping on anything but my side so my hips and shoulders don’t hurt so bad. Being able to walk and not waddle. Not having to pee a thousand times a day and night. Being able to get up off of anything without assistance. And being able to really play with Buddy – he wants me to chase him around on the floor but that’s not happening and I feel bad.

Cravings: Still really just my Oreo’s and milk.

Aversions: Nope, not anymore.

Symptoms: I’m pregnant and I know it that is for sure!

Labor Signs: I thought Hurricane Sandy was going to bring Baby Sydney because I was feeling sick on Monday and thought I was having contractions but after some water and just sitting down and resting those contractions were really just Braxton Hicks.

Belly Button in or out: It’s out.

Wedding rings on or off: They’ve both been off for a while. I miss them.

Best moment this week: Steve and I went to dinner on Sunday night as a last night out just the two of us before we have a baby. It was really nice.

Looking forward to: Meeting my daughter. I’m glad she didn’t come during the hurricane, and I’m really ok waiting for her to decide when she comes but I am really excited to have her here finally.

Pregnancy Update: Week 38

How Far Along: 38 weeks! 2 weeks to go!

Size of baby: Still the size of a watermelon. Measuring anywhere between 19 and 22 inches and weighing around 6.5lbs.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I’m up a lot more than I expected to gain that’s for sure. People are surprised when I tell them its 42 pounds and they say I look great – that makes me feel good. It’s the people that constantly call me the fat pregnant lady that really hurt my feelings.

Maternity Clothes: You betcha though since it’s gotten colder and I don’t have any long sleeve maternity shirts I’m wearing regular shirts and hoping I’m not stretching them out.

Gender: BABY GIRL!!

Movement: She’s still a really active baby and she’s actually found this one spot that she loves to push her foot out which kind of hurts and I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m bruised on the inside right there. It’s also really kind of neat to see her movements because her feet/arms actually stick out since she’s bigger and stronger now.

Sleep: It’s getting worse and worse because my hips are achy and I get up to pee a lot but I do still sleep and I get a nap in every afternoon.

What I miss: I miss my feet being of normal size… they’re a tad on the swollen size! And I miss not really hurting all over but at this point I think it’s really just safe to say I miss not being pregnant.

Cravings: I’m still in love with my Oreo’s!

Aversions: Nothing anymore. Symptoms: Heartburn, swollen feet, achy body, no sleep, sore hips in the morning, and weird numbness in the tips of 3 fingers on my right hand (seriously, that one takes the cake as weirdest pregnancy symptom!)

Labor Signs: Nope. Not a single contraction and really very few Braxton Hicks contractions even. I would even venture to guess I still have my mucous plug because I haven’t had any contractions so I’m probably not dilated at all.

Belly Button in or out: Out! Out! Out!

Wedding rings on or off: Off… and I miss them!

Best moment this week: We went to the pumpkin patch this weekend with some friends and their kids and that was a lot of fun (and walking!). I can’t wait until next year when we’ve got a little one of our own to do that kind of stuff with.

Looking forward to: Even though I’m crazy anxious and nervous I’m definitely looking forward to meeting our baby girl soon!

Boba Air Carrier

I usually don’t do these types of blog posts but we’ve been debating on a carrier for Baby Sydney and The Art of Making a Baby has this awesome giveaway so this is counting as an entry for me. We have no idea if she’ll even like being in a carrier, but we’re going for it anyway.

I recently found a coupon code for a free sling from Seven Slings and I’m pretty excited about that, but like I said…. Steve is not so excited about that. Plus, it could just be a little too girlie looking for him. And a lady I work with got us a super cute Petunia Pickle Bottom sling…but again, too girlie for Steve so he’s not so excited about that. He REALLY wants to get a carrier – so we’ve been looking and looking. And they’re kind of expensive especially when you have no idea what will work for you and your baby.

For the last couple months I’ve been following The Art of Making a Baby and she has this really awesome giveaway for a Boba Air. According to her, it’s lightweight (.7lbs) which makes it convenient for a quick trip or a hot day. And I will very likely not want to wear a heavy carrier plus a baby next summer! I hate being too hot so this could be quite perfect for us.

It also comes with and is easily stored in a very handy little bag so it would be perfect for keeping in the car or stuffing in your stroller as an extra method of carrying baby like they did on their trip to Disney.

I did some researching on their website – like any good parent would do right?! And I love that you can use this as a front or back carrier. I think we will want/need one with that option (do they all have that option? I have no idea…. clearly I need to do some more research!).

It’s made for children 15-45lbs so it would be a few months before we could put it to some use, but I do like the fact that it will hold a heavier child so we could get quite a bit of use out of it.

And it isn’t all that bad on the budget… priced at only $65 it is less than any of the other carriers we’ve been thinking about.

So there you have it. I’m blogging this simply to try to win this giveaway because that would be awesome, but after looking in to it I think we would seriously consider this or another one of the Boba carriers.
