A road trip.

I haven’t been very successful with my goal to Blog Everyday in May… I’m not really sure what happened, but it seemed like every day just got away from me and before I knew it several days had gone by without even thinking about participating in this link up. There are a few prompts that I missed that I’m going to circle back and write, but today I’m talking about a road trip I’d really love to go on.

Historic Route 66. The Main Street of America.

Something about it just sounds like so much fun. I’ve always wanted to fly in to Chicago and rent a car and just drive until I hit Los Angeles and see all the sights along the way. I really love road trips and I think this one would be a great way to see some of the cool stuff that America has to offer.

There is just something fun about those kitchy road side attractions that really gets me excited and there are so many of those kitchy things to see along Historic Route 66 that I know one day I will be making the drive. Who doesn’t want to see the worlds largest rocker? Or Tow Tater, the inspiration for Tow Mater in Cars? Or an 80-foot blue whale?

I know I do! That sounds like the perfect summer vacation to me! I definitely wish I had done it when I was a little younger (say in my early 20’s?) because I think it would have been much easier to just hop in a car and make the drive but I think it would still be fun now (or in a few years!)

Have you ever driven along Historic Route 66? Or is it something you’ve always dreamed of doing to? I’d love to hear your story!

Five Books to Love.

Hello there friends I hope you’re having a wonderful Wednesday and recovering well from any Cinco de Mayo festivities you may have indulged in ūüėČ

I’m back today linking up with Belinda for the Blog Everyday in May link up. I’ve found that¬†this has helped me to really “think outside the box” when it comes to what portions of my life and my story I can share. It’s definitely helped get the writing gears turning and I’m really enjoying it! Are you following along? Let me know because I’d love to read what you have to say.

Today I’m talking about 5 Books I love. I have to confess that I love a lot of books so it was pretty hard to come up with only 5 books which is why I’m taking about the 5 books I’ve recently finished because I do really love them and think you should read them. I’m a pretty avid reader although sometimes it does take me longer to make it through a book than others. Some books are slower and some are quicker reads. Sometimes I just don’t have much time to dive in to a book. But I always enjoy getting lost in someone else’s story.

One.

My favorite series I’ve ever ready has to be the Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich. There are 21 books (number 22 comes out in November!! Just in time for my birthday!). They are super quick reads that will keep you in some suspense but also keep you laughing. Stephanie Plum is a terrible Bond Enforcement Agent that always ends up in the middle of some crazy crime investigation in which she usually makes things worse before they get better. I read the entire series from One to Twenty-One without even taking the time to read anything in between because I was so hooked.

Two.

David Baldacci Zero Day. I literally just finished this book last night. I stayed up way too late finishing it because it was so good and I didn’t want to put it down because I needed to know what was going to happen but at the same time it was so good that I didn’t want it to end. This book follows John Puller, a combat veteran, on a murder investigation in a small, coal mining West Virginia town. It takes some twists and turns along the way and Puller and Sam Cole, the local cop, make some terrifying discoveries and turn to some unexpected sources for assistance to solve this unusual murder.

Three.

I’m sure you know who The Bloggess is. If you don’t you definitely need to hop on over to her blog because she is hysterical. She also wrote a tremendously funny “mostly true memoir” about her life growing up in a small town in Texas. It is amazing and a really quick read. You should read the description on her blog because it is way better than I could describe but you should totally read this book. She also has another one coming out called Furiously Happy and I’m really excited to read that because I was so sad when this one was over!

Four.

Are you there, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea. Chelsea Handler is hysterical both in real life (ok…on TV…I don’t know her in real life) and in her book. This book is a little all over the place in how she tells her story and it ends a little abruptly (it left me wanting more for sure) but it’s really, really funny and worth the read. It’s another quick read and I can imagine going back to this book if I’m spending the day on the beach or by the pool.

Five.

I love James Patterson and have read many (many!) of his books. This is part of his Alex Cross series which is probably my favorite series of his. Alex Cross is based in DC which appeals to me since it is relatively local to where I am so I recognize a lot of the places he talks about in his books. These two books are directly connected as in Hope to Die picks up immediately where Cross My Heart leaves off. You will definitely want to have them both on hand (or in your Kindle Library) when you start because you are going to want to start Hope to Die as soon as you finish Cross My Heart.¬†Cross My Heart¬†set a jaw-dropping story in motion.¬†Hope to Die¬†propels Alex Cross’s greatest challenge to its astonishing finish.

What books have you read recently? I just started the next John Puller book but I expect to be finished with that one pretty quickly just like I did the first so I’ll be looking forward to another great book to dive in to.

Found Love. Now What?

Never have I ever…

I bet you think this is going to get crazy kind of like the drinking game? Well, you’re wrong.

In the spirit of the Blog Every Day in May prompt for today I’m going to talk about one thing that I’ve never done. And I’m keeping it clean. Because this is the internet and you never know who will stumble upon what and let’s face it I’m not putting anything out on the internet that would make my grandmother blush.

So… Never Have I Ever….

….gotten a tattoo.

And I really want one. I have been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo of Sydney’s name on my wrist since I was pregnant with her. Now all I need is the guts to actually do it. I’m mostly afraid of the pain. I’ve always said I’d never get a tattoo because I just didn’t think there was anything that I would want permanently on my body… but I know I would never regret putting Sydney’s name on me because it isn’t something I would grow out of. I like this style, on the wrist because it is tasteful and simple.

Maybe one day…¬†

What’s one thing you’ve never done but really want to?

Found Love. Now What?

Travel Bucket List.

Good morning and happy Sunday everyone! I’m here today talking about my travel bucket list. I had to put some real thought in to this list to narrow it down because I have a lot of places I’d really like to see in my life. I guess I could have said “the world” and been done with it but that doesn’t seem like a lot of fun now does it?

One: Disney

I know. You’re probably asking why this is on the top of my list. Of all places, Disney is number one? I’ve been to both Disney Land and Disney World¬†so why would it even make my list? Because Sydney is obsessed with Mickey Mouse Club House and I’m sure there will be much Disney love in my future and I cannot wait to take her to Disney and see her face experience this place and all of its magic and wonder.

Two: Ireland.

My Nana was Irish and very proud of it. I remember this one time she discovered there was this book about her Irish Clan and she wanted to buy it. The only problem with that was it was only sold at this tiny bookstore IN Ireland and this was well before shopping online. I figured out a way to get in contact with the bookstore and managed to work out a way for me to buy her that book. She was SO thrilled that I had done that and so impressed that it was possible. I have always wanted to visit this beautiful country and if I ever have the chance to go there I will be on the first plane out of town. There is just something about the castles, the green, the ocean, the old history, and the culture that draws me in and allows me to dream big about spending a lot of time exploring the wonderful country.

Three: Australia.

This is another beautiful country I have always dreamed of visiting. The scenery is amazing even in pictures which is definitely an indication that it would be breathtaking to see in person. I’m sure I would have to spend about a month there to explore everything there is to explore.¬†I think I’d like to take some time exploring the Outback and then the city and then spend some time relaxing on the beautiful beaches. Obviously I would have to make a stop at the Sydney Opera House for a photo op. I also hear there is some pretty good wine that I would need to make sure I got a good sampling of while I was there. Honestly, I got a little distracted on a tourism page just looking at all the things to do when you visit that it makes me want to go so much more. One day.

Four: Hawaii.

I’m not a huge fan of beaches but I think there is something to be said about the beaches in Hawaii. I would like to travel to Hawaii simply for the relaxing I could do on the beautiful beaches. I know there is a ton of exploring to do around the many different islands that it makes it hard to narrow down just what I would do. I do know I would make a stop at Dole because an old coworker of mine brought back some goodies from there and they were delicious. Thinking about the chocolate covered pineapple makes my mouth water. I think I would also like to try and dive a bit more in to my adventurous side and maybe do a few fun things in the water¬†and maybe even some hiking on a volcano or two. The possibilities seem endless when you think about everything Hawaii has to offer.

I’m sure that any vacation to any of these destinations would make my heart happy. I guess I’ll have to get to saving my pennies to make at least one of them happen because now I’m all distracted by several tourism pages open in my other browser. I’m off to dream big! Where do you dream of going? I’d love to check out your travel bucket list to get some more ideas for my own!

I’m linking up with Belinda over at Found Love Now What with her Blog Everyday in May challenge and I’m having so much fun!

Found Love. Now What?

Five photos.

Hello there!¬†Happy Saturday dear readers. I hope you all are enjoying your day and are on your way to a wonderful weekend! We’re celebrating Apple Blossom this weekend and today is the big parade and we’ll be hanging out at the fire house with some family and friends. Sydney is REALLY excited about seeing the fire trucks and the fire house. I can’t wait to see her face when she experiences all of this for the first time. I’m sure I’ll take a million photos because that’s what I do. Which is why this prompt is both perfect and super impossible because I have so.many.photos that picking FIVE to tell my story was so hard. But here goes…

One.

Best moment of my life.

Best moment of my life.

I’m a lot of things but the best thing I have ever been is a mother. It is the one thing I have always known I wanted to be and I waited my entire life to be her mother. She is a huge part of my story and she is helping me write my favorite chapters and I can’t wait to see where this¬†story goes.

Two.

My home.

My home.

I mentioned this is yesterdays post but it is worth mentioning it again because it is a huge part of my story. I was born and raised in Virginia and while I once thought I could leave this place in the dust when it came down to it I couldn’t leave. I love everything about this state and have such fond memories of taking trips all over this state and I am very excited to share those things with Sydney. I started, recently, by taking her to Dinosaur Land and while it wasn’t quite what I had remembered it to be she didn’t seem to mind (or know, obviously) but she definitely had a great time and that’s all that really matters!

Three.

Another year.

Another year.

I’m 32. I don’t feel thirty-two years old but at the same time I feel wise beyond my years. I’m sure, like most people, I had envisioned my life going a certain way and doing certain things by a certain age. If you had told me when I was doing all this dreaming that I was so wrong but it wouldn’t matter in the end I wouldn’t have believed you. But I know now that I can dream all I want but life is going to go how life goes and I’m going to have to just go with it. For the first time in…uh…ever… I’m ok with that. I’m happy with the decisions I’ve made and where I’ve been in life and I can’t wait to see where the road takes me. I haven’t always made the best decisions and it hasn’t always been easy but that’s life, right? Here’s the the last 32 years and here’s to the rest of my life!

Four.

A good glass of wine.

A good glass of wine.

You know what else tells my story? Wine. Wine tells my story the best. Because I can be a little shy in some situations and wine helps me to loosen up¬†(doesn’t it do that for everyone?!) Plus, all good stories go better with good friends and good wine. I really do enjoy a good glass of wine though and I really like doing wine tasting events. When I started drinking wine I was a little young and was all about the Arbor Mist but now I prefer a much better bottle glass of wine. Virginia does have quite the little wine country and I live in a perfect area to enjoy a lot of the wine country Virginia has to offer.

Five.

Pictures are a wonderful thing.

Pictures are a wonderful thing.

Pictures. Pictures tell my story. I love taking pictures and I have folders upon folders and an external hard drive (or two…) full of pictures that tell my story. I had a really hard time thinking outside of the box with this prompt but I think what it really boils down to is that every picture I see, every memory I capture, it is all apart of my story. This is my story. I’m living it and I’m sharing it right here on this blog and in my everyday life. Sure this story I tell here is a fraction of my entire life story but it is what I am choosing to share, it is what I am hoping to remember, it is what I think is important to put out in to the world at that moment. I’ve always been one to journal and scrapbook to capture my memories and this is one way I have decided to do that. For better or worse… this is my story.

Found Love. Now What?

Hi There.

What is this? Two blog posts in ONE day? I know. It’s madness. I never post that much but I’m taking on a fun and exciting challenge for May with Belinda over at Found Love Now What. I have been reading her blog for a few months and love it and this month she’s invited her readers to join her in a blogging every day in May challenge. I have been feeling like I need some new material to write about and really liked a lot of her prompts so I’m going to give it a go. I may not use them all and mix in some of my own ideas in there but I’m definitely going to try and blog every day for all 31 days of May. Whew! Sounds like a fun challenge but it’ll definitely be a challenge for me.

Anyway…. Day 1 prompt is to introduce yourself. So here we are.

Me and my girl

Me and my girl

My name is Carrie. Nice to meet you. I blog for fun because I enjoy writing which is the English Major in me. I do a lot of writing as part of my professional career. I dream of one day being able to write “for fun” as a living but I guess we’ll just have to see how life works out.

I think if I asked anyone to describe me I’d like them to use these words: happy, strong, and funny. That’s how I see myself. I’m there are probably a few other words people would use to describe me but these are the qualities that I think I have that I like most about myself. Everyone – myself included – can find a negative thing to say about everything but I’m trying to look for happy and positive things in life these days. I think trying to focus on the happy is helping me to be happier. I’m also strong because I work hard to be. And who doesn’t think they are funny? I know I’m hilarious – especially once you have some wine in me ūüėČ

Fit mama

Fit mama

One of my passions in life is fitness and keeping in shape. I work out for at least 30 minutes a day and chase a toddler around the house for as long as she is laughing. I really enjoy getting my heart rate up but I love even more the great example I’m setting for my daughter by eating healthy and working out ¬†on a regular basis. I don’t make any of my healthy habits about anything more than being healthy because I want her to grow up with a healthy idea surrounding food and exercise. I typically write a Fit Friday post about the latest exercise program I’m working on. Right now you can follow along with my journey through the T25 program if you’re interested.

Early morning cuddles

Early morning cuddles

I have a two and a half (what?!) year old little girl who is the absolute light of my life. She is funny and has an imagination that surprises me on most days because I just can’t believe she’s turning in to a little girl and not a baby anymore. She is so much fun to play with and I could listen to her laugh for days. I actually recorded her laughing because I love that sound so much (so much that I’ll do nearly anything to make it happen).

I have a puppy that is more like an old man because he’ll be 11 in August. ELEVEN. I can’t even believe that. I’ve had him since he was 4 months old and it’s just hard to believe that was about 10 years ago.¬†He was my first baby and he’ll always be my cuddle bug.

Me and my boy

Me and my boy

Hmm…what else? Well, I’m a native to Virginia. I believe that is a rarity these days because a lot of people I know here are surprised to find out that I was born here and have lived here my whole life. I always thought I would move far, far away from this place but when the time came to move I couldn’t bring myself to go very far. We ended up a little west of where I grew up, but we’re in the process of moving back to where I grew up because it is closer to our family and work. I’m excited about moving but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t just a little sad about leaving the home we brought our girl home to. There will be new memories to be made in a new home, but I’m a sentimental person and there will be a lot of tears as I back out of our driveway for the last time I know that for sure.

I think that’s probably enough for now… there are a whole lot of topics I’ll be covering this month with Blog Everyday in May and I’m really excited to dive deep and really stretch my blogging legs.¬†I’m also excited about finding new blogs to read and maybe adding a few new readers to my little site.

Found Love. Now What?

I couldn’t live without

This week I’m jumping for joy and can’t live without Apple Blossom Festival! I talked about it yesterday and how we Uncorked the Bloom last weekend which is my favorite weekend except now that I’ve had the chance to take Sydney to the carnival and see her excitement over the simplest rides I think seeing her reaction to this festival will be my new favorite part of Apple Blossom.

Since it was a nice day we went to the carnival and took Sydney on her first big girl ride (that isn’t located at the mall). I wasn’t sure how she would react to them but she did awesome.

Ready for her first ride

Ready for her first ride

She was so excited about riding the train and then was a little disappointed that we just missed it and would have to wait our turn. She waited patiently, but she did try to go through the gate a few times so that it would be her turn haha.

Wheeeee!!!!

Wheeeee!!!!

We also got to ride “the ponies” (the carousel) and she loved that one so much that we had to ride it again right away and she was not interested at all in waiting in line or even waiting for me to get our tickets out so we could get back on!

Happiness is a girl and her pony

Happiness is a girl and her pony

This weekend we’ll be taking her to her first parade as part of the festival and there will be actual fire trucks (which are super exciting to her right now) and we’ll be hanging out at the fire house in town so I think she will be really excited about that.
