Baby Shower

I realized I never wrote about my shower and I guess now is as good a time as any.

My mom offered almost as soon as I got pregnant to throw me a shower and she was so excited about it. She did a wonderful job with the shower and it was a wonderful day. Sydney and I were definitely showered with love and I think I opened gifts for nearly 2 hours.

My parents got me some really special gifts – aside from all of her nursery furniture. My mom kept “baby boxes” for both my brother and I when we were growing up and she saved all kinds of special things for us in them. She kept baby books for us, but it’s also nice to have my box full of memories too. For my shower my mom gave me (and Sydney) the cutest box that she wrote an great little note in for me to use as Sydney’s baby box. I can’t wait to fill it up with all her special memories and one day share them with her.

My dad is pretty handy with a sewing machine and he made Sydney her baby blanket. It is the cutest thing ever and I just know it will be so special to her.

We had family come in from out of town and it was really great to see them as well as our other friends and family that were able to spend the day celebrating Sydney’s life.

The Andersen girls. Mom, Judi, Me, Tracey. And soon to be Miss Sydney.

The Byars side. Sue, Me, and Mary. My Dad’s sisters.

These are basically my sisters – Katie and Laura. We’ve been friends since we were babies and they both were there to stand beside me on my wedding day. I couldn’t imagine my life without them and I’m so glad Sydney will know them as her “Aunts”

Pregnancy update: Week 40

How Far Along: 40 weeks. I’ve made it the whole way and I’m feeling like this little girl is going to make them force her out.

Size of baby: Size of a watermelon – between 19 and 22 inches and between 6 and 9 pounds. And I certainly hope she’s closer to the 6 pound mark instead of that 9 pound mark haha.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: At the doctor last week I weighed in at 155 which is a 40 pound weight gain (I lost 2 pounds so I’m going with this as my final weight)

Maternity Clothes: Right now it’s more like sweats and t-shirts because I’m home waiting for baby to come, but when I do go out I am in maternity clothes – well, pants anyway because it’s too cold to wear my short sleeved maternity shirts and I don’t have any long sleeved ones.

Gender: BABY GIRL!!

Movement: She is definitely in there having a party! I will miss this the most; actually it’s the only thing I’ll miss about being pregnant.

Sleep: I am trying to get as much as I can but it’s uncomfortable so it isn’t always the best but I am getting what I can get.

What I miss: I miss seeing my feet. I miss being able to get up off the couch or out of bed without assistance. I miss not feeling like I might pee myself all the time. I miss not having heartburn. I miss being comfortable. I miss not being pregnant.

Cravings: Right now I’m too busy stuffing my face with spicy food and pineapple and anything else that “they” say can bring on labor.

Aversions: Nothing

Symptoms: I can’t see my feet but I know they’re swollen. I’m extremely uncomfortable. I have this carpal tunnel in my right hand that makes the tips of 3 of my fingers kind of numb, but not all the way numb. I get a little restless leg syndrome which is not fun. I still get heartburn, but that’s probably on account of all that spicy food I’ve been eating.

Labor Signs: Not a one. Walking, stairs, bouncing on an exercise ball, spicy food, pineapple…none of those old wives tales have worked for me.

Belly Button in or out: It’s out and it has been. It also looks kind of funny according to Steve.

Wedding rings on or off: Off and I miss wearing them.

Best moment this week: Well, over the weekend we did so much walking around the mall that I did a little shopping for me so that was nice.

Looking forward to: Meeting my daughter. She’s had plenty of time inside and now it’s time for her to be an outside baby.

Pregnancy Update: Week 39

How Far Along: 39 weeks. ONE WEEK TO GO! Unless she’s stubborn and wants to be late, but my doctor promised me she wouldn’t make me go past 41 weeks!

Size of baby: She’s still the size of a watermelon….just a tad on the heavier side this week, maybe. Measuring about 19-22 inches and weighing in between 7 – 7.5 pounds. Neither Steve nor I were that big when we were born so we’ll see if she is.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: When I was at the doctor last week I hadn’t gained any more weight!! YAY!! But I hadn’t lost any either so I’m still up 42 pounds total.

Maternity Clothes: Well, since I’m working from home until she’s born it’s more like pajamas. But yeah when I go out I’m wearing maternity stuff just so I don’t stretch out my regular clothes.

Gender: BABY GIRL!!

Movement: She’s still an active baby and the other night I thought she was going to go Alien on my stomach, but after feeling her position the next morning I think she just was working her way down. Not out, just down.

Sleep: It’s not good. Not good at all. What I miss: Seeing my feet. Sleeping on anything but my side so my hips and shoulders don’t hurt so bad. Being able to walk and not waddle. Not having to pee a thousand times a day and night. Being able to get up off of anything without assistance. And being able to really play with Buddy – he wants me to chase him around on the floor but that’s not happening and I feel bad.

Cravings: Still really just my Oreo’s and milk.

Aversions: Nope, not anymore.

Symptoms: I’m pregnant and I know it that is for sure!

Labor Signs: I thought Hurricane Sandy was going to bring Baby Sydney because I was feeling sick on Monday and thought I was having contractions but after some water and just sitting down and resting those contractions were really just Braxton Hicks.

Belly Button in or out: It’s out.

Wedding rings on or off: They’ve both been off for a while. I miss them.

Best moment this week: Steve and I went to dinner on Sunday night as a last night out just the two of us before we have a baby. It was really nice.

Looking forward to: Meeting my daughter. I’m glad she didn’t come during the hurricane, and I’m really ok waiting for her to decide when she comes but I am really excited to have her here finally.

Pregnancy Update: Week 38

How Far Along: 38 weeks! 2 weeks to go!

Size of baby: Still the size of a watermelon. Measuring anywhere between 19 and 22 inches and weighing around 6.5lbs.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I’m up a lot more than I expected to gain that’s for sure. People are surprised when I tell them its 42 pounds and they say I look great – that makes me feel good. It’s the people that constantly call me the fat pregnant lady that really hurt my feelings.

Maternity Clothes: You betcha though since it’s gotten colder and I don’t have any long sleeve maternity shirts I’m wearing regular shirts and hoping I’m not stretching them out.

Gender: BABY GIRL!!

Movement: She’s still a really active baby and she’s actually found this one spot that she loves to push her foot out which kind of hurts and I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m bruised on the inside right there. It’s also really kind of neat to see her movements because her feet/arms actually stick out since she’s bigger and stronger now.

Sleep: It’s getting worse and worse because my hips are achy and I get up to pee a lot but I do still sleep and I get a nap in every afternoon.

What I miss: I miss my feet being of normal size… they’re a tad on the swollen size! And I miss not really hurting all over but at this point I think it’s really just safe to say I miss not being pregnant.

Cravings: I’m still in love with my Oreo’s!

Aversions: Nothing anymore. Symptoms: Heartburn, swollen feet, achy body, no sleep, sore hips in the morning, and weird numbness in the tips of 3 fingers on my right hand (seriously, that one takes the cake as weirdest pregnancy symptom!)

Labor Signs: Nope. Not a single contraction and really very few Braxton Hicks contractions even. I would even venture to guess I still have my mucous plug because I haven’t had any contractions so I’m probably not dilated at all.

Belly Button in or out: Out! Out! Out!

Wedding rings on or off: Off… and I miss them!

Best moment this week: We went to the pumpkin patch this weekend with some friends and their kids and that was a lot of fun (and walking!). I can’t wait until next year when we’ve got a little one of our own to do that kind of stuff with.

Looking forward to: Even though I’m crazy anxious and nervous I’m definitely looking forward to meeting our baby girl soon!

Pregnancy update: Week 37

How Far Along: 37 weeks. FULL TERM! That’s crazy. CRAZY.

Size of baby: Still the size of a watermelon. Measuring anywhere between 19 and 22 inches and weighing around 6.5lbs.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: Well I’m certainly excelling in this category for sure.

Maternity Clothes: Mostly yes, but I do have a pair of jeans I can wear with my BeBand (maybe others, but I like the way those fit still so those are the only ones I wear really). And I had to dig out some long sleeve shirts since it’s cold and I don’t have any of those in maternity. At this point I’m just making it work.

Gender: BABY GIRL!!

Movement: She’s still pretty active & I love that. I think I’m going to miss that the most. That and actually seeing her move is really cool. Lately she’s been sticking something (a foot perhaps?) in to my right side and you can quite clearly see it on that side. Not like the foot itself, but you can definitely tell something is sticking out over there.

Sleep: This is getting to be more and more of a joke. I’m so uncomfortable and I get up to pee so much that I’m lucky to get whatever I can and I’m just tired all the time.

What I miss: I miss a lot of things, but mostly I miss being not pregnant now. I enjoy parts of being pregnant but I’m just feeling large and almost incapable of doing simple things that it’s kind of frustrating. But I’m all for her sticking around for as long as she needs to be inside me. I’ll definitely miss not feeling her inside me.

Cravings: I’ve been enjoying apples lately – which is great cause I bought a big bag and then one of our neighbors brought us a big bag so we’ve had a lot of apples and I’m the only one eating them! I also still have my daily dose of Oreo’s because I just can’t give those up!

Aversions: Nothing.

Symptoms: Heartburn, back aches, soreness, inability to sleep sometimes, having to pee a lot, being hungry but at the same time not having enough room to really fill me up, not being able to see my feet – or anything below my belly!, I can’t put on shoes if they don’t slip on, and it’s nearly impossible to get up off the floor/couch/bed without some assistance.

Labor Signs: Nope! So far nothing. Even my Braxton Hicks contractions are very few and far between (like some days I don’t have them at all and when I do it’s really only because I’ve done too much or I haven’t had enough water so as long as I drink some water and sit down they go away pretty quick).

Belly Button in or out: Out.

Wedding rings on or off: Definitely off. And I really started to miss them this morning.

Best moment this week: We had baby prep class this past weekend and that was informative. I think Steve feels better about the whole labor thing now that he’s gone through it. And I’m officially full term this week which is pretty exciting. It also means she could literally come at any time which is scary, but really cool at the same time.

Looking forward to: We don’t have anything big coming up in the next few weeks, basically we’re just going to take it easy and wait for baby!

Pregnancy Update: Week 36

How Far Along:  36 weeks. That means there are only 4 weeks left. FOUR. Or 28 days. That is not a lot of time. NOT AT ALL.

Size of baby: SIZE OF A WATERMELON. A Watermelon. That’s not small at all. Still measuring between 19 and 22 inches, but her weight could be up to about 6.5 pounds (which would be about what I weighed at birth)

Total Weight Gain/Loss: It’s pretty safe to assume that I’m up exactly the number of weeks I am. Because that would be the rate I have been going up until this point and I’m supposed to be gaining a pound a week so there’s that.

Maternity Clothes: Why yes, yes I am. And I’m still wearing some regular clothes (a couple pair of jeans with my BeBand and some regular shirts as long as they’re long enough and not too tight cause I don’t want to stretch them out)

Gender: BABY GIRL!!

Movement: She is certainly active. And right now her movements are actually hurting me. I don’t know if it’s a foot or an elbow but she is getting some jabs in for sure.

Sleep: I’m definitely more tired lately so I go to bed earlier but I’m not sleeping solidly because of all the  getting up to pee so I don’t wake up feeling rested or anything.

What I miss: I miss not being so sore and sleeping well. And since it’s getting cold I miss not being able to really bend over to put on shoes.

Cravings: I still pretty much just crave Oreo’s on a regular (daily!) basis. Other than that I don’t (and really haven’t) had any strong cravings.

Aversions: Nothing really, I’m feeling pretty good.

Symptoms: I’m sore – mostly in my hips and I think that’s from sleeping on them. I feel large. I can’t see my feet. I can’t bend over and I don’t really move with grace or ease these days. It’s hard to get up off the couch. My feet and fingers are a little on the swollen side and they kind of hurt a bit so that’s not fun. And I still have that weird random half asleep feeling in my feet so that’s weird too. And lately my hands have been falling asleep at night. Basically, I’m definitely pregnant!!

Labor Signs: Nope. I don’t even really have a lot of Braxton Hicks these days, but I stay really hydrated so I don’t know if one has anything to do with the other.

Belly Button in or out: OUT!

Wedding rings on or off: Definitely off at this point.

Best moment this week: Our family friend finished Sydney’s mural and it looks SO GOOD! My parents & brother came over this weekend and it was nice to spend some quality family time, lunch, and a little shopping with Mom while we dragged the boys with us. I also did some shopping for myself – nothing super fancy, just some nursing tanks and bras and some pajamas for after delivery but it was really nice just to buy something for myself. And with all of that I am now all packed for the hospital for both myself and for Sydney.

Looking forward to: Doing the last finishing touches to the nursery – some cleaning and hanging of the mirror over the dresser and it’ll be all ready for her. Also just finishing up the last of the things I want to get done around the house between now and whenever she decides to show up.

Pregnancy Update: Week 35

How Far Along: 35 weeks (and on Tuesday that meant I had 35 DAYS LEFT! Crazy.)

Size of baby: She’s still the size of a large cantaloupe measuring about 19 to 22 inches, but this week apparently the cantaloupe is a little heavier weighing in at 6lbs.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: Well, I’m winning the weight gain race for sure haha. But I still don’t look like I gained what I have (35 pounds, for the record) and my doctor is fine with my gain and at this point I’m not changing anything because I only have 5 weeks left.

Maternity Clothes: Why yes, yes I am. And I’m still wearing some regular clothes (a couple pair of jeans with my BeBand and some regular shirts as long as they’re long enough and not too tight cause I don’t want to stretch them out)

Gender: BABY GIRL!!

Movement: She’s a really active baby…. Except when people (mostly her grandma’s) want to feel her. But she definitely gets her dance party on. I love it.

Sleep: Hanging in there I guess. It’s not even remotely comfortable anymore, and I’m up every 2-ish hours to pee, but at least I’m sleeping.

What I miss: I think at this point I miss being not pregnant just for the little things. So I can put on shoes and socks without having trouble. So I can walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like I just ran a marathon because she’s squashing my lungs. And recently, because I believe she’s mushing my stomach as well, I miss not feeling sick to my stomach.

Cravings: Right now because I just feel a little nauseous constantly I don’t really have any cravings right now.

Aversions: Kind of everything right now because it seems that a full stomach makes for a more upset stomach which is the complete opposite of the beginning of my pregnancy because then it was an empty stomach was an upset stomach and the only way to keep the morning sickness at bay was to eat often.

Symptoms: Aside from all the uncomfortable stuff in the few categories above I’ve got this weird thing going on with my feet. Minimal swelling (although sometimes there is more than minimal) and sometimes the arch of my foot kind of like falls asleep. It’s a weird feeling because it’s not the whole foot so I’m walking on like a half asleep foot.

Labor Signs: Nope and even the Braxton Hicks contractions are kind of few and far between. Which is ok, because they’re just annoying.

Belly Button in or out: OUT!

Wedding rings on or off: Definitely off at this point.

Best moment this week: A family friend came over to work on a mural for the nursery and it looks SO GOOD! It’s not done yet but it’s getting there and it really does look amazing. We also went to a yard sale and a consignment sale over the weekend and scored some amazing deals. I finally feel like we don’t have to buy anything else for her even though I still feel unprepared for her arrival! And I organized her closet and dresser. SO MANY CLOTHES! But only 0-6months really, apparently this spring someone is going to need a new wardrobe…. Good thing there’s another consignment sale in April I can go to haha!

Looking forward to: Having the mural finished because then I can put the last finishing touches on her room and call that done. And finishing up the last of my to-do list… it’s still kind of long, but I’m working with the really important (to me) stuff first and it’s getting there little by little so I feel pretty good about it.
